In which we present some of the most commonly-asked questions about iScreensaver...Please see our iScreensaver Tech Notes where other important issues are addressed.
-
Q: Screensaver can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer?
A: Tightening software restrictions have locked down casual application installations across both macOS and Windows. For users to bypass unsigned warnings, they'll want to follow these steps. For more information about code signing and digital signatures, see our Tech Note on Code Signing.

Q: How do I get rid of the "Created with iScreensaver" watermarks?
A: Purchase a License, and re-build your existing projects. See our Price List.

Q: Where is the SCR file? I just need the SCR file to install on my managed Windows PCs. How do I do this?
A: Version 6 - You only need the .EXE installer, then follow the full instructions at Managed installations of iScreensaver. For Version 5 - You actually need two items: the SCR file and the Libs folder. For discussions, see our Installing iScreensaver in a managed environment forum.
-
Q: The screensaver shows the filename and size on top of the images and movies. How do I remove this floating overlay that shows the item information?
A: In your sequence, select all the items showing captions. Right-click one of the items and choose Item>Behavior from the popup menu, which opens the Info palette. Click the Overlays triangle, which will show you checkboxes for the overlays. You can enable or disable both the Text Caption and Image Overlay. See our Enabling & Disabling Overlays.
-
Q: On macOS, I created and installed a screensaver using iScreensaver, but it's not selected and I can't find it.
A: Sometimes after installing, macOS doesn't select the screensaver file for use. It's easy to re-select it, see our Where is my Screensaver?
-
Q: I'm a student, do you have a educational price?
A: Yes! Even if you don't quality, we can give discounts in other situations, just email us with your details. See our Non-Profit and Educational Discounts.
-
Q: Screensavers aren't working on my users' Windows PC running XP and Vista? What about Windows 7?
A: Windows XP and Vista are no longer supported. We offer unofficial support for Windows 7. See our Best practices when making screensavers for Windows 7.
-
Q: My video screensaver exits as soon as it starts on macOS.
A: This was due to a long-standing bug in macOS. The solution is to re-encode your video file with another video codec. Read the Release Notes about "Safe codecs" in the Known Issues section at the bottom under "Media/Codec Issues." Safest codec is H.264, but even iPhone H.264 videos once exhibited troubles (especially vertical videos), frequently solved by re-encoding to H.264 under QuickTime Player. See our Release Notes. Please note, we believe this bug no longer exists in OS X 10.11 El Capitan.
