QuickTime Upgrade Disables Flash Playback under iScreensaver
Problem:
After upgrading to a new version of QuickTime, any iScreensaver that uses Flash content stops working. This can happen on both Macintosh and Windows computers. It happens with iScreensaver 3.5 (or earlier) and QuickTime 7.1.3 and later.
Cause:
Unfortunately, Apple Computer (maker of QuickTime) has permanently disabled the use of Flash content within QuickTime. iScreensaver uses QuickTime for all content playback (including Flash), therefore it is also affected.
This problem is not unique to iScreensaver -- many other software products are affected, and there has been a great deal of frustration as described here. This change even caused some Apple software to stop working.
Details:
QuickTime 7.1.3 upgrade : disabled Flash playback under QuickTime, but you could re-enable it.
QuickTime 7.3.1 upgrade : this setting has been made permanent and you can no longer override it. Flash content within QuickTime is prohibited.
iScreensaver 3.5 : may experience a Flash warning message when using QuickTime movies, depending on the settings of QuickTime preferences at the time of upgrade.

Upgrade to iScreensaver 4.0

Export Flash to QuickTime
Some Flash movies, particularly those with little scripting or interactivity, can be converted to a video format. See Exporting Flash to QuickTime.
Downgrade to an older version of QuickTime
It is possible to downgrade to an older version of QuickTime. We do not recommend it for a number of reasons, but it can be done.
Re-Enable Flash
This only works if you are using a QuickTime earlier than 7.3. Instructions below.
How can I re-enable play Flash files under QuickTime 7.1.3 thru 7.3.0
Problem:
Under QuickTime 7.1.3 Flash playback via QuickTime has been disabled. This change is system-wide and affects both Macintosh and Windows. In order to use Flash tracks within QuickTime, you should 'Enable Flash' on each computer.
Solution:
Macintosh: Open System Preferences, click QuickTime, click the Advanced Tab, and check the "Enable Flash" checkbox. When upgrading to QuickTime 7.2, be sure to quit any open applications before the system update takes place, and do not perform any processes during the process. In many cases, the problem can be solved by simply updating prebinding again, which happens automatically when you re-apply the Mac OS X 10.4.10 combo updater.
Windows: Open Control Panels, double-click QuickTime, click the Advanced Tab, and check the "Enable Playback of Flash tracks" checkbox.
Also, make sure to download our latest version of iScreensaver Designer, which checks for, and notifies the user, if the setting needs attention.
