iScreensaver Designer, Editing Slide Show Screensaver Content :

The Edit a Slide Show panel allows you to choose a number of QuickTime-compatible still image files, including PICT, JPG, BMP, TIFF, and more, and create a simple entertaining screensaver with them. Here you can also customize many of the screensaver display options.

Help for this section:

View as List : With List view, you can see all the files listed in the order that they will play during the Slide Show. Drag and drop one, or several, names up or down the list to change the order. Use the 'shift' key to select a range of names, or use the 'command' key to select several non-contiguous lines at once.

• Columns : Easily view several kinds of data concerning your image list by Showing or Hiding the columns of the list view below. Use the 'Columns...' pull-down list to check and uncheck types of data. You can temporarily reorder the list alphabetically or numerically by clicking on the different Column headers, or click twice on a header to sort in reverse order. To return to the actual order, click on the '#' column.
  
• Add Folder : Browse your hard drive to choose a folder of images. It will also search and add from sub-folders inside the main selected folder.
  
• Add Image : Browse your hard drive to choose a single image.
  
• Delete All : This deletes all the selected images from the slide show list (not from your hard drive). It will give a live-count of how many images are selected, if less than all of them.
  

• Live Effects : When this is checked, there will be an animation effect of what the selected file will look like with its Video Effect running. The first image will be of the preceding image with the 'Effect In' revealing the selected image. Please note if you are a slower machine that this can use a bit of CPU power when this window is in the background, so uncheck it when not actively working in iScreensaver Designer. You can use Live Effects to easily preview and test all of the various Slide Settings.
  
• Show Compression : When this is checked, there will be real-time examples of the effects of JPEG compression on the selected file. You can use Show Compression to easily preview and test all of the various slide compression settings.
  
• Horizontal Slider : Use the slider in the center of the window to resize the amount of space shared between the List and the Preview.
  

• Use Random Order : This randomizes all of the images each time the computer goes to sleep.
  
• Always Show First Slide First : With this option checked, the first image of the list will always play first when the screensaver begins, even with Random Order turned on.
  

• Background Audio : Check this to include the audio file with the screensaver. The filename and filesize are conveniently listed here.
  
• Loop Audio : Continuously looping audio for your screensaver. If unchecked, the audio plays only once.
  
• Select... : Browse your hard drive for your desired audio.
  
• Reset : Cancels the audio and removes the file from the list.
  
• Volume : To set the desired volume when the screensaver is first installed, set this control here. The user can later override this setting from the Options tab of the Control Panel.
  

Visual : All of these options affect how the image is prepared before being placed on-screen.
• Color : Click here to open the system's Color Picker to choose a background color. If you are using a Stretch Mode of 'Fill Screen' you will not see the background color.
  
• Flip : Each slide can be seen normally, or reversed along either the vertical axis or horizontal axis. To flip along both at once, use a rotation of 180 degrees instead.
  
• Rotate : Slides can be rotated at any degree (0 - 360) or along different 90 degree angles, whether clockwise or counter-clockwise, or spun all the way around to 180 degrees. This feature saves time when importing a batch of photos, or a roll of scanned film, and you don't wish to use an image-processing program to open and resave hand-rotated photos. There is Random Rotation available, selected via the pop-up menu or by entering 'Rnd' in the text entry.
  
• Time : Choose an option from the pop-up triangle, or enter your own desired time that the image will remain on-screen before transititioning to the next. The unit of time is in seconds.
  

Stretch Mode : This option affects how the image is to be placed on-screen.
• 'Actual Size' makes the image the same size as the original regardless of monitor resolution. Images that are larger than the users monitors will 'bleed' off the edges.
  
• 'Proportional' resizes the image to match either the width or height of the user's monitor resolution.
  
• 'Fill Screen' stretches the image to the edges of the monitor. This could change the aspect ratio on some monitor resolutions.
  

Effect : These Video Effect options affect how the image is drawn to the screen.
• Group : Video Effects are split into several groups of effects, such as Basic effects, Wipes, or Random effects. Choose the group, then choose the specific effect.
  
• Effect : Specific effects within the groups, such as the Basic effect group includes Cuts and Fades. Choose the group, then choose the specific effect. Use the Live Effects checkbox to preview the transition.
  

• Use JPEG Compression : With this checked on, the image will be converted and compressed to the JPEG (or JPG) format.
  
• Quality : The ratio between Quality and Compression byte-count is inverse - if you want to save disk space, reduce the Quality, but if you have fine details or text in your image, increase the Quality. The compression takes place immediately, so watch the Preview window for WYSIWYG comparisons.
  
• Resize if larger than : With this checked on, you can set a maximum image size, so any image larger than the width or height you set will be resized down proportionally to fit your specific dimensions.
  
• Original vs. Final : Real-time data about the selected image. Change the compression quality or auto-resizing information and you'll see the estimated results immediately.
  
• Summary : This totals up all the various elements of your slide show, showing you the complete kilobyte-count of the original elements, and how the compression and audio files add up for the final screensaver. These numbers are just for this slide show only, and do not include screensaver software overhead, nor alternative content, installer splash screen, icons, or other elements.
  
• Calculate : Click to calculate and summarize the data count.
