QuickTime for Windows

QuickTime, by Apple Computer, is the world's premiere video and audio format.
iScreensaver Designer requires QuickTime to be installed for operation.

Special Information regarding developing for Windows Vista.

Installing QuickTime under Windows

NOTE: You must choose the 'Recommended' installation option (see below).

There are two ways to get the quicktime installation:
  • Standalone Installer (recommended, as this will automatically default to the 'Recommended' installation.) Get Standalone Installer.
  • Network Installer (if you choose this option, be absolutely sure you pick 'Recommended' as the installation choice.) Get Network Installer.

QuickTime Requirements for Windows

Our recommended configuration for best performance is :
  • QuickTime 6.0 or later
  • ''Recommended'' Installation option

Choose the Recommended setting when installing QuickTime.

Testing has indicated that in many cases, you can get away with doing only the ''Minimal'' installation under QuickTime 6.3 with Windows XP. However, we do not officially support this configuration.

Troubleshooting QuickTime Installation

If QuickTime is not installed you will notice the following behavior while using a screensaver created with iScreensaver :
  1. During installation, a dialog box window will open telling the user that QuickTime is not installed. A button will allow the user to go to the QuickTime website and get the free download.
  2. During installation, the custom ''splash screen'' picture at the top will be missing.
  3. If the user continues with installation, ignoring the warnings, the screensaver will generally not function properly (images and movies will not display).
If QuickTime is installed, but the wrong installation was done (either ''Custom'' or ''Minimal''), you may see some of the following problems :
  1. During installation, a dialog box window may open telling the user that QuickTime is not installed. A button will allow the user to go to the QuickTime website and get the free download.
  2. During installation, the custom ''splash screen'' picture at the top may be missing.
  3. The screensaver may not function properly (images and movies will not display).
  4. During operation of the screensaver, you may see pop-up windows asking you to download the missing QuickTime components.
