iScreensaver has been updated to version

iScreensaver version 6.8.3 fixes an issue that could cause screensaver installers to crash silently on macOS non-English language systems (such as Korean). It also has improved error reporting, and has been tested with the latest versions of Windows 11 and macOS 12.1 Monterey. Any authors distributing screensavers to non-English macOS users should update and rebuild as soon as possible, and other authors are encouraged to update and rebuild when convenient.

Release Notes
We are pleased to announce the release of iScreensaver version 6 which supports macOS 10.11 (El Capitan) through 11 (Big Sur) and Windows 7 through 10. Read about Version 6

Keyboard navigation with HUD enabled?

Does keyboard navigation work when the HUD is enabled? I know the HUD is enabled, because when I move the mouse it appears and I can control my slideshow with it. My understanding was if the HUD is enabled and I check the appropriate choices in the iScreensaver options for Enter/Return, space bar, and arrow keys that those keys will trigger the HUD and allow navigation as well, but they don't seem to be working on my Mac running Catalina.

  • Hi Tom - sorry about the slow reply, we didn't notice this post.

Keyboard control works with the HUD enabled in all OSs except for Catalina. This is due to an Apple change in how screensavers work in Catalina. It affects other mac screensavers as well. We've asked Apple about it, but we aren't confident that it will change any time soon.

If you really want keyboard control on Catalina, then you can do this trick: instead of installing the screensaver, just run the screensaver installer app and hit the Preview button. In this mode, running as an app, keyboard control is fully functional even in Catalina.
