iScreensaver 6 - managed installation - registry keys
When performing a managed installation (see https://iscreensaver.com/help/notes/managed_installation/managed_installation.shtml ) it's important to set Registry Keys properly.
There are a few potential "gotchas" or issues to avoid:
- The HKCU/.Default user is not the right place (many people think this is the "Default settings for new users" but this is not correct). See https://devblogs.microsoft.com/oldnewthing/20070302-00/?p=27783
- The "Default settings for new users" actually are stored in the NTUSER.DAT file - this is an older way, but can still work. See https://superuser.com/questions/1285378/apply-registry-tweak-to-newly-created-users
- The more modern way is to use Group Policy Object as shown here: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/80fad09a-420c-487f-8dfa-8a59c9ea8664/gpo-to-change-a-registry-value?forum=winserverGP
Comments
With iScreensaver 6.1, we have simplified managed installations on Windows and made changes for macOS 10.15 Catalina. Fewer registry keys and plist entries are needed.
