Dear iScreensaver Customers,Apple is releasing Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) tomorrow, August 28th. Please be aware that iScreensaver Designer 3.5 is not certified for use with Mac OS X 10.6. There are some issues with attempting to use it on 10.6:
- iScreensaver Designer (the editor program) does appear to work under 10.6.
- However, Screensavers made with iScreensaver Designer do not work.
- If a user upgrades to 10.6 who was using an iScreensaver-made screensaver, the screensaver will no longer function in 10.6. The screen will simply go blank when the screensaver is activated. If the user opens the Screensaver System Preferences, they will see a message "This screen saver can not be used in this operating system, please contact the author for a newer version".
- If a user is using 10.6, and tries to install an iScreensaver-made screensaver, the installation will fail and the screensaver will not be installed.
We are atempting to have these issues resolved with version 4.0 of iScreensaver. This process has been slowed due to a large number of simultaneous Operating System changes (such as Mac OS X 10.6, Mac OS 64 bit support, Windows Vista, Windows 7, QuickTime X, and Adobe Flash changes). We are very excited about iScreensaver 4.0 and believe it will be well worth the wait! Stay tuned for more news. To make sure you receive notifications, please sign up to our mailing list. Hello,iSS 3.5 works for me under Snow Leopard. In effect, when using some effects it doesn't work (it bugs). Previewing the screensaver fullscreen from application also doesn't work, but once you build it, the screensaver seems to work even under Mac OS X 10.6. You just have to use mostly standard effects in order to prevent the screensaver from not working. By the way, with an unlimited license, can you already tell the pricing for the version 4 update? Thanks. IP: Logged |

Interesting -- it is our belief that although Designer should work under 10.6, the screen savers created not work under 10.6 at all (and this is confirmed by our test machines).I believe there may be a loophole which would be if your machine is an older 32-bit only Intel chip -- in this case the ScreensaverEngine process will be running in 32 bit mode only. Can you tell us the make/model of your mac? The easiest way to do this is:
- Apple Menu / About This Mac
- Click "More Info"
- In the hardware overview, please copy/paste the first 5 lines (Model Name through Processor Speed).
You should get something like this: Model Name: MacBook Pro Model Identifier: MacBookPro3,1 Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor Speed: 2.2 GHz

Hello,I confirm that it doesn't want to install under 10.6.1. The screen saver seems to work in itself (I can preview it) but it can't be installed because of an error «Couldn't open screen saver control panel». My console gives this error trying to install the screen saver: «Initializer-based scripting additions have been deprecated. Please update this addition: "/Library/ScriptingAdditions/Adobe Unit Types.osax"» Older iScreenSaver screen savers can't run neither under 10.6.1 (although they appear in system preferences under the name «iScreenSaver 3.4»). But the screen savers built under 10.6 do work under Windows though. Nom du modčle : MacBook Pro Identifiant du modčle : MacBookPro3,1 Nom du processeur : Intel Core 2 Duo Vitesse du processeur : 2,4 GHz

Version 4.0 is coming along nicely -- slower than we'd have liked but given the # of OS and tool changes it's requiring a lot of changes. We believe it will be well worth the wait. To stay informed of updates, please sign up for http://iscreensaver.com/mailinglist.shtml IP: Logged |
