I just recently discovered that my Mac screensavers will not install. I have a co-worker in another office (who owns a Mac) create my screen savers for me. He gives me the InstallScreensaver file and I make that available for download. I witnessed it being installed on a Mac and it just popped a window up and then went away. What indicator should I get to tell me it was successful? I expect to see an install dialog similar to the Windows version. As best as I can tell, there isn't a Mac specific set of instructions for installation which tells me it is the same as Windows. Can someone confirm that for me please? Should this Installfile be placed into a zip file before distributing?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Keith

Installing on Mac is nearly identical to the process on Windows. See http://iscreensaver.com/userhelp.shtml for screenshots.

My guess it that your coworker is not sending you the correct file, or has forgotten to zip the file before sending it to. Also, please make sure they are using version 3.5, as prior versions were not universal-binary.

Great, thanks for the info. I have to beg for an answer to another question. Once I have what I assume should be a zip file containing the screen saver install, what is the process to install it? If I unzip it, it would seem that I am back where I started. Should there not be a file extension attached so MacOS knows what to do with the file? Does MacOS know what to do with a zipped file (as in go right into the iscreensaver installer program) once it is double-clicked?
Sorry, i'm a windows and Linux guy and have never owned a Mac.

Thanks again for your help.

It should open when double clicked. If not, something has gone wrong.

Here's how it should work:
1. Screensavers created on Mac can be Copied directly to a mac. However, you have to be careful since this is a double-forked file -- if you, for example, try to copy it via a Windows network, or from a website, it will render the file unusable. The solution is to Zip the file on the mac first, then send it, then unzip it on the receiving mac.

2. Screensavers created on a Windows PC will generate a .bin file which is a MacBinary file. You'll need to use the free Stuffit Expander to convert it back to a standard mac app.

See http://iscreensaver.com/webpage.shtml for more hints
