Hi...I completed my first Screensaver. I am using a Mac with 640 MB RAM. Regarding the fullscreen preview (before installation) and the small preview in System Preferences (after the installation) everything is fine. But as soon as I load the Screensaver (after installation) it is very slow...I already read that the transition-option "disolve" is very prone to being slow. But why is everything fine in the fullscreen preview before? I also read that one is supposed to switch off "Load into RAM" in case that the screensaver is bigger than 1MB (mine is 1.1MB). But I could not find any such switch-off option. I'd be very happy if you'd have suggestions. IP: Logged |

Final question : what is your screen size (in pixels)? To determine this, go to Apple Menu/System Preferences/Displays and read the Resolution.

I'm guessing here that the problem is just that you have a slow(ish) computer and are using the most memory- and cpu-intensive effect (dissolve). As for the difference between the full-screen preview and the actual screensaver running, I'm guessing this is due to RAM use differences.Question -- if you try the screensaver immediately after booting your mac (before you've used any other programs) is it faster? It is a tiny tiny bit faster. What about that "load into Ram option"?IP: Logged |

The "load into RAM" option was back in the OS 9 days, and only applied to QuickTime movies, so that doesn't help you. The problem you are seeing in fact is that the pictures & dissolve effects are loading into RAM, and you are running out of RAM
Sadly, I think the answer is that on a slower, older machine such as yours, the dissolve effects may just be too much...advice at this point is to (A) get more RAM, (B) get a faster CPU, (C) don't use Dissolve effects. We may be able to improve this situation in version 4.0 by using additional hardware acceleration... IP: Logged |

Thanks for you help...Unfortunalty, I already put as much RAM as my machine can take in it. Guess I have to say good-bye to "dissolve" :-( IP: Logged | |
