Is it possible to deploy the screensaver silently? We built a company screensaver and want to deploy it to all of our systems using a third party deployment program. All it requires is silent install switches, if there are any.Thanks. IP: Logged |

Silent Installs on Active Directory systems can be accomplished as follows:1. Install the saver using the EXE file on one machine. 2. This will put a SCR in your Windows folder. 3. Push the SCR out to the client machines in the proper folder 4. Update the client machine's registry to select the screensaver as the default one. 5. Make sure other system requirements are installed as well: http://iscreensaver.com/requirements.shtml Details of course will depend on your particular managed scenario, but should work in most circumstances. Updated instructions for doing a Silent Install / Active Directory scenario:1. If you haven't done so already, upgrade to iScreensaver Designer 3.5 and re-build your screensaver. Version 3.5 fixes some bugs with installation detection. 2. On a test machine that you have admin privileges: 2A. Delete the folder C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\iScreensaver\Saver\ 2B. Install the saver using the EXE installer file. Launch the screensaver at least once. 2C. This will put the SCR in your C:\WINDOWS folder. Grab a copy of this file. 2D. Grab the entire support file folder located at C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\iScreensaver\Saver\ISC1-XXXXXX-YYYYYY 3. Create an Active Directory install process which does the following things: 3A. Places the .SCR file in C:\WINDOWS (or another sub-directory as per your configuration) 3B. Places the ISC1-XXXXXX-YYYYYY support directory in the proper place (the user's Application Support folder) 3C. Selects the SCR as the currently selected screensaver. 3D. Shadows the system.ini value to SCRNSAVE.EXE=C:\WINDOWS\MYSAVER.SCR (replace MYSAVER.SCR with the actual 8.3 filename of your screensaver) See http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms815030.aspx or http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/gp/130.asp for help with this. I have followed these steps and it is working fine for most users, but we have a group of users managed by a locked down GPO and when the screen saver activates after the 15 minute time period, instead of showing the screen saver, they are prompted to install it and the install fails. I get a message "Couldn't create destination file."[This message has been edited by eschloss (edited 08-08-2008).] IP: Logged |

Any time the "install screensaver" dialog comes up, it's because the screensaver file has determined it's not properly installed. Most likely, you didn't implement step 3A or 3D properly...IP: Logged | |
