I have a Pro copy of iScreensaver [Editor: registration info removed - please don't post your registration info on a public forum, as this will cause your registration to be deactivated] created a screensaver with a variety of images with predetermined movements that dissolve to another image at random after 5 seconds.

However, when I built the screensaver and installed it on a laptop of similar specifications, the images seemed out of proportion, and the edges of the images often passed by, revealing aesthetically unappealing blackness behind it.

Do you have any ideas what may be wrong with the screensaver? It operated fine in Preview mode.

I understand that iScreenSaver 4.4.4 will not support dual-monitors running under windows, however the trial screensaver that I have created (which works beautifully under Mac OSX 10.7.4, also with a laptop and dual monitor configuration), will firstly run on the laptop screen (which is set as the main display), and then from then on attempts to run on the second monitor.

However, when it displays on the 2nd monitor, it only runs at the size displayed on the 15", in the top left-hand corner of the screen, with an flickering line at the bottom of the screen.

Is there a way to stop the screensaver from appearing on the 2nd monitor, other than disconnecting the monitor?

I downloaded the screensaver and unzipped it. When I clicked
"Install," I got a window reading, "OpenGL driver version 1.2 Apple-1.5.48
is installed. OpenGL driver version 1.3 is recommended. Update the GL
driver."

So I clicked the "Update" button, and it took me to a web page reading,
"Macintosh users have it easy. Simply update the system software, and all
OpenGL drivers are udpated automatically:
1. From the Apple menu, choose 'Software Update.'
2. Apply all updates.
3. Reboot the computer if needed."

So I pulled down System Software, and after searching my computer, it said,
"Your software is up to date. Software Update doesn¹t have any new software
for your computer at this time."

Please advise. Our screensaver is a simple png graphic moving on the screen (uses no flash or quicktime). Is there a process where the screensaver might be saving to a temp file?

From what I've read on the forum, my screensaver is optimized (all images are 1:1 in the .swf file, jpeg compression ratio of 80, low fps, etc.). What could be causing this issue?

A rapid response would be greatly appreciated as the screensavers are for floor computers in a tradeshow that is getting ready to go live.

I've created a video for a client that we'd like to have play back as a screensaver in their office. It is just a single video file that I intend on looping as a screensaver - so I will be adding only 1 video file to the iScreensaver project window.

Is it possible to have the screensaver resume where it left off before its playback was interrupted? For example:

-after a period of inactivity, screensaver is launched and starts playing from the beginning of the video
-after 2min, user is active again and screensaver goes away
-after another period of inactivity, screensaver is launched again. Can it resume playback at the 2min mark or will it start over again at the beginning of the video each time?

I'd appreciate any input on whether this is possible. And does this option exist on the iScreensaver side or on the local computer that is operating the screensaver? (The screensaver will be run on Windows XP and Windows 7 machines).

When we've created Art Gallery Image Presentations for clients, where the gallery desires to use their own Mac system sporting dual monitors (or more), we have to design our presentation around some common technical details. Please note this is for Mac OS X only, Windows only supports single monitors using Designer 4.

When using iScreensaver, multiple monitors are not designed to stay in sync. The 'easy' technical reason for this is that given the variety of video cards, video drivers, and media (images, flash, and various movie files) and the fact that the two monitors may be both different size and shape (which affects playback speed), there's really no way to keep them in sync. Any sync seen is just luck. Even sequential monitors right off the assembly line can exhibit differences from one another.

Our recommendation is to design with this in mind, and not attempt to have fully synchronized presentations on multi-monitor setups. If you truly need perfect sync, then you'll need to turn on Monitor Mirroring in the OS so that both monitors are showing the same thing. We also recommend a high-quality Solid State Drive.

How do we design around it?

We use shuffle, and purposely push the monitor displays further out of sync with having different durations for the images. Half are set to 6 seconds, the other half set to 8 seconds. Or during the opening, we use the HUD and tap the keyboard's arrow keys to push to the next item early.

"Why can't they stay in sync again?"

Short answer - computers aren't magic, they only seem that way.

If this is a screensaver meant to be used as an addon to a computer used for professional / business purposes, then the end-user needs to understand that a screensaver runs at the whim of the Operating System (OS) and has to share resources (RAM, CPU, Disk) with other processes that are running in the background. As an example, if the user is on Mac OS X, and has a Time Machine backup proceeding, the screensaver will necessarily slow down as the OS divides time between the foreground and background operations.

This is not a flaw but rather a feature.
Imagine a screensaver that caused the user's entire computer to come to a grinding halt!
Expectations need to be set reasonably based on these limitations.

Instructions for doing a Silent Install / Active Directory scenario:

1. If you haven't done so already, upgrade to iScreensaver Designer 4 and re-build your screensaver.

2. On a test machine that you have an Administrator account, log in, and copy the installation folder to this machine.

2A. Install the saver using the EXE installer file using the "Install for All Users" option.

2B. This will put Two items (a .SCR file and a LIBS folder) into your C:\WINDOWS folder.
for example: C:\Windows\MyScreensaver.scr and C:\Windows\MyScreensaver Libs\
It will also set some registry keys.

2C. If you want to set per-computer screensaver options (such as audio volume, or the use of the HUD), then open the screensaver control panel, click "Options" and set your desired options. Close the control panel.

2D. Verify that the screensaver functions normally.

To roll out the screensaver system-wide:

3. Create an Active Directory install process which does the following things:

3A. Places the two items (the .SCR file and the LIBS folder noted above) in C:\WINDOWS (or the equivalent WIN32 folder as per your configuration). Important: do not rename either the SCR or the Libs folder, as they reference each other by name. If you need them named differently, change the name in your .ISC project file in iScreensaver Designer, and re-build the screensaver, then start over at step 1.

3B. Selects the SCR as the currently selected screensaver by setting the registry key:
HKCU/Desktop/SCRNSAVE.EXE=C:\WINDOWS\MYSAVER.SCR
Adjust the path to match your installation. note that this path MUST be the short (8.3) format path, even on Vista/Win7.

You may also want to Shadow the system.ini value as well.

7. Anti-virus software must not block the operation.

I'm hoping someone might be bale to help me out here, I have created a simple screensaver using iScreensaver 4 on the Mac and have delivered the 'PC.exe' version to the client.
When they install this file they get the following error message;

I downloaded a trial version of iScreensaver to test how it works before purchase.
I'm developing a screensaver with flash CS4. Settings are:
1024 x 768 px, 25 fps, white background.

Everything is in the main timeline. There's no actionscript code.
The beginning and the end of the animation are simply faded into white color (#FFFFFF) playing with the alpha of a white layer on top of everything. This make a smooth loop between the end and the beginning.

The swf is exported in flash player 9. The file size is 936 Kb.
The swf works properly both in flash player and quicktime.

THE ISSUE
When I test the screensaver I get a black background between the end of the movie and the beginning.
I tried to set a white background from iScreensaver. I tried to use all the size box (letter, actual, fill, crop...).
Nothing seems working.
Seems like it take a bit to "load" the white background (when it is set).
I'm pretty sure of it because I tried with a red color, just to see if it comes up.
It happens in the preview and after being installed, both in Mac and PC.

Basicly I would like to be able to avoid this black "frame", because it brakes the loop.
Any helps is really appreciate.

"Jim, it appears that the screensaver requires a newer "driver" than I have in my computer. When I try to install, I get a message that I have "OpenGL driver version 1.1" and a recommendation to update to version 1.3.

I also get the attached debug report.

The instructions for updating my driver seem to dead end for my machine (might be me or might be the machine...I can't tell)....and I'm not comfortable getting off the provided instructions and trying to wing it on the net.

Sorry, but I think I'm dead in the water for the Screensaver.

Here is the Debug Report from the screenshot he sent:

The errors are all wglXXX and the user is on Windows 7 Enterprise with IE8 and QT 7.6.9. The screensaver runs fine otherwise.
